Benefits and opportunities
Our aim in this area is to provide 'starter' templates to support a consistent approach to job profiling for advanced level roles across NHSScotland. Implementation of the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) is a key objective within NHSScotland and it provides a real opportunity for the review of the expectations of the skills and competencies assoiated with existing roles and the consistent benchmarking of new roles such as those requiring advanced level practice.
The 'exemplar' job profiles in the previous section all provide a common core for advanced level practice, and support the development of additional examples in specific clinical/professional settings. We have provided a blank template to support this process and would encourage stakeholders to submit additional advanced practice exemplars to add to the library within this resource.
It is only through such clarity and consistency that we will be able to make appropriate sense of the career framework definitions and facilitate:
- individuals - to visualise, articulate and plan their own careers
- planners - to analyse and shape the skill mix and service delivery model
Skills for Health has developed a database of competences that can be used to meet the demands of the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework [KSF].
Further information to support the development of job profiles can be found in the resources section.
