What is Ethics?

Ethics (sometimes called morals or moral philosopy) is concerned with fundamental principles of right and wrong and what people ought to do.  Ethics inform our judgements and values and help individuals decide on how to act.  Guidance on acting ethically is informed by accepted ethical theories, principles and frameworks.

In everyday practice advanced practitioners are expected to make judgements about what is best for a particular individual. Ethical theories and principles provide the evidence base to support decision making.  Ethics is a vast subject area and only a very brief summary is presented here with links to supportive resources to help Advanced Practitioners further their understanding of ethics and the application to their practice.
